About Bien-Air Dental

Types of Dental Handpiece Couplers
One of the most important parts of choosing the right couplers for your dental handpiece is determining what type of attachment your device uses. Depending on the type of devices you have, you’ll need to have a certain number of holes or pins that align to form a secure connection. Generally, four-hole connections (also known as Midwest connections) are the most common across the U.S. and Europe, but you should double-check in case your unit has a two-hole (Borden) connection. Different pin designs also matter. Perhaps your slow-speed handpiece uses a six-pin design while your high-speed handpiece features a five-pin design. In addition, making sure the connector is compatible with your dental fiber optic tubing.
